The 1997 is one of the finest Howard Park Rieslings and remains remarkably fresh and young for its age and shows all the Riesling attributes in abundance. The wine is gently emerging to show some secondary aged characteristics, hints of buttered toast, nutty nuances and increased palate weight. The wine is in that cross-over stage in which primary freshness and crispness is no longer the main attribute but secondary complexity is yet to fully develop. This wine should be left alone for a couple more years to allow more secondary characteristics to develop.
