Heathcote and Central Victoria are fast becoming “the” regions for producing fruit bombs and blockbuster Shirazs. The fame of Wild Duck Creek, Hanging Rock, Warrenmang and Summerfield all lay testimony to Victoria’s ability to make wines with massive fruit, high alcohol and beautiful balance. Adrian Munari produces the Munari Shiraz and Schoolhouse Red exclusively from the Munari’s Heathcote estate grown fruit and enforces a strict low yield - low irrigation regime. Tonnage is between 1 and 2 tonnes per acre. Irrigation is drip-regulated and only as required.
Heathcote and Central Victoria have experienced several droughts over the past decade and this in combination with low yields produces the intense fruit driven styles that Robert Parker Jnr and the US market regard highly. Total production numbers for this year was a tiny 1500 cases (only 18,000 bottles) including white and red wines.
